Think flat

She was pretty sure she had seen it right. It was 12 am and she was supposed to be sleeping but she switched off the lights and sat on her bed,it was a breezy night and her body was covered in her favourite Mickey Mouse blanket and her Harry Potter book placed was on top of her pillow. She was engrossed into the book until she saw something move in front of her. She was pretty sure that someone had entered her room. She didn't dare take her blanket off her face but continued to sit and think of all the possibilities that might happen if she removed her blanket. She would first run and go into her parent's room and wake them up, tell them that she had seen somebody inside her room and would make them catch the thief. But what if before she got out of her room the thief catches her and kidnaps her and takes her away? What if she still escaped the thief and goes to her parents room? What if he hurts her parent's and they die? What will she be able to do if there are no adults to help her? She's only 11. She won't be able to carry the glass vase that was kept beside her parents' bed nor would she be able to carry the wooden blocks kept for decor on their wall. All that she could do was scream. Scream till her neighbours heard her. Scream till they come to help her and call the police. But what if the thief shuts her mouth with a cloth dipped in some kind of medicine that will make her sleep? At that time she thought of every movie she had watched in her entire life and all that her brain could process was horrible images. It was already five minutes since she had seen the thief and she was sure enough that he was hiding behind the door as that was the only possible place where he could. By this time she was sweating. Sweat dripped on parts of the book. A few moments back she was reading how Harry meets Ron and Hermione for the first time on the train and now she's here, thinking about death and getting kidnapped. She had to do something until it became too late. She grabbed the night lamp she had along with her under her blanket and slowly lifted one end of it to see what was happening. From the tiny gap she could see her window and the beautiful night sky. She gazed at it for a moment before she realised that she was in deep trouble and this was no fairy tale. She leaped out of her bed and was ready to strike at anyone who came in front of her. Nothing happened. She took one step forward and reached the door. All that she find was a few clothes hanging behind. Before she could take another step, she tripped on something and fell flat on her face. She pulled herself up and switched on the light. She had tripped on her own t-shirt which had flew from the hanger and had fallen on the floor. Only then did she realise what a fool she was to assume that her tshirt was the thief all this while!

Assumption leads to destruction, overthinking too.
